Ansuini & Co. was born in Florence, one of the few places where paper marbling is still thriving, having learned from some of the best artists in the field. We have teamed with Florentine craftsmen and women to bring our papers to life in the form of artifacts such as books, lampshades and other objects.

Many of these businesses are the last of their kind still producing by hand, after generations of family practice.

I’ve always loved and appreciated artifacts… things that you can hold, arrange, admire. My husband is from Florence, and on our frequent visits, I would spend hours in the stationery stores, window shopping along Oltrarno, and peering into the windows of the seemingly ancient ateliers while the various artisans hone their respective crafts.

When we moved to Florence, I had set up my first marbling class for the day after we landed. I was not prepared for how much I would be taken by the artform… the process of making it… the flow of the colors spreading on the size, the utter lack of control. I’ve had messy hands, and have dreamt in pigments, ever since.

Now, my interest has evolved to refining the perfect palette for every client. I love the process of jumping into hundreds of reference photos to create a new color. I love the element of surrender required, as ultimately the paints will do as they please. Each new project excites and inspires me as if it was that first time in class, fresh off the plane, and my practice continues to evolve in a manner I couldn’t have imagined.
